Artist Residency Opportunity – Pelee Island
The Stone & Sky Music & Arts Series is a growing and eclectic series of artistic events featuring weekly presentations of spoken word, music performance, & visual art, a multi-arts finalé production, and the contribution of a farmers market presenting open workshops to the community. From mid-June to Labour Day, it takes place every weekend in a fossilized, limestone quarry which is home to many indigenous and endangered species native only to Pelee Island in all of Canada. Primarily promoting local professional artists, we are very pleased to also host national and international artists for residencies throughout the summer. All artists (approximately 65) participate in residencies that culminate with the delivery of weekend workshops open to all, regardless of age or experience, at no cost.
We are seeking to expand the representation of professional visual artists (as defined by the Arts Council of Ontario) from beyond the Windsor area. This paid opportunity offers a week long residency in provided accommodations shared with a musical and a literary artist. Responsibilities entail the creation of a 5’ x 7’ scenic panel inspired by our finalé production Équilibre (presented August 19th) to be painted live during a weekly concert. The residency offers an additional opportunity for artists to become a part of this rural and remote community and create other work inspired by this matchless environment.
To apply for this exciting opportunity, please provide an electronic CV, letter of intent, and relevant examples of your work by March 1, 2018 to:
Patricia Fell, Artistic Director,
**Note: the scenic panel is considered a theatrical stage property, and as such, all materials for the creation of the scenic panel to be provided by Stone & Sky. It remains the property of Stone & Sky to use/re-use as deemed necessary and/or fit**
