August 9th ~ Gord Grisenthwaite, Tina Newlove and Bechet’s Bequest: Manzerolle & Karloff

Last night’s Stone & Sky show took off when Gord Grisenthwaite read his insightful, thought-provoking short stories. He took the audience on intense emotional journeys and left them with a lot to chew on. Next, Ray Manzerolle on the soprano saxophone and Mike Karloff on the piano payed tribute to Sidney Bechet, playing songs he wrote and performed as well as new compositions reminiscent of his style. The music was lively, melodic, and magical. Tying it all together, surrealist artist Tina Newlove channelled the stories and sounds into a large, live painting. With a grace that made it seem easy, she created a city-scape bursting with colour and filled with mysterious people.
