
P.I.R.A.T.E. RADIO: PELEE ISLAND RADIO AND TRAINING EXPERIENCE
Avast ye Pelee Islanders, join P.I.R.A.T.E. Radio and share your voice from the high seas of Lake Erie as part of a new podcast about life on Pelee Island!
Pelee Island’s Stone & Sky Music and Art Series is offering a free radio training and volunteer experience for Island residents with the launch of P.I.R.A.T.E. Radio (Pelee Island Radio And Training Experience). If you’re a Pelee Island Resident, you can still sign up by emailing piratepeleeradio@gmail.com.
P.I.R.A.T.E. Radio volunteers will learn how to create radio segments to be included in a one-hour weekly podcast focusing on all aspects of life on Pelee Island, with stories told by its residents. P.I.R.A.T.E. Radio will feature island news and information, upcoming events, exploration of the island’s history, ecology, culture and will celebrate Canada’s Southernmost community by sharing its unique stories.
Volunteer trainees will learn; audio recording, interview skills, story development, audio editing and documentary creation, narration and more! The program is open to Pelee Island residents of all ages 14 and up; youth, adults, retirees and seniors. The training will be conducted in English, but other language speakers are encouraged to contribute stories for the podcast. Beginners are very welcome, basic equipment will be provided. Radio is a great way to develop confidence, make new friends, learn skills and break out of your comfort zone by trying something new!
The first episode of the P.I.R.A.T.E. Radio podcast will launch in early June and be available online, and will be aired at the Saturday morning Quarry Farmers Market.
